WHO YOU ARE
The Payroll Manager is responsible for designing, documenting, and continuously improving payroll processes across Canada and the United States. This role focuses on developing payroll knowledge, standard operating procedures, and best practices that ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency. Acting as the payroll process and systems expert, the Payroll Manager maintains and optimizes the UKG payroll/HRIS environment, leads process improvement initiatives, and provides training, guidance, and support to the payroll team to build capability, knowledge transfer, and long-term operational excellence.
The Payroll Manager is also expected to collaborate closely with HR, Total Rewards and HRIS team members to ensure Payroll processes are aligned with department wide strategies and goals.
- Design, standardize, and maintain end-to-end payroll processes for Canadian and U.S. payrolls.
- Ensure payroll processes align with legislative requirements, internal policies, audit standards and HR practices
- Support payroll and benefit transformation initiatives, including system enhancements and process redesign.
- Act as the UKG payroll/HRIS subject matter expert, ensuring system configuration supports payroll processes and compliance.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and IT on UKG enhancements, upgrades, and integrations.
- Establish and maintain payroll best practices across all payroll activities that align with and support HR policies
- Support to develop payroll reference materials, job aids, and documentation to support consistency and knowledge retention.
- Stay current on payroll legislation and industry trends and incorporate updates into payroll practices.
- Promote continuous learning and process maturity within the payroll function.
- Provide training, guidance, and coaching to payroll team members on processes, systems, and compliance requirements.
- Support knowledge transfer and cross training to strengthen payroll coverage and resilience.
- Support the entire payroll process when required.
- Any other task and project as per business needs.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Strong communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of UKG PRO and WFM
- UKG Implementation experience an asset
- Knowledge of BI reporting an asset
- PCP certification an assets
